We place a huge value on adults reading stories to children both at home and at school. Children who are read to regularly, strive to become readers themselves. We are keen share early reading skills, and support parents and carers with help and ideas for enjoying books and stories together with young children.
Look out for our learning story each week on our noticeboards, when dropping off or collecting. You may know the story well, or it may be an unknown one for you. Whether familiar or new, the book of the week is always exciting to all children. We also share our book of the week with all families on our learning journal Tapestry.
All children in both the caterpillars and butterflies rooms, can choose a book from the nursery library to take home in their nursery book bag each week. We have library grandparents who volunteer each week to come and support the children to choose a new book to take home. Our wonderful grandparents read lots of stories throughout the sessions they attend. If you have a family member who would like to be a library volunteer each week at nursery, even if it is just for a term, then we would love to welcome them. Just speak to someone in the school office, thank you.
We also have close links with local libraries. Sometimes we visit the libraries in town, or sometimes librarians come into the nursery to read to the children here. There is always time for a story!
